zheng Zheng Wang
PostDoctoral Research Associate (Spring 2022 - )

Zheng Wang received the B.S. degree in Electronic Engineering and M.S. degree in Control Science and Engineering, both from Tsinghua university, Beijing, China. He received his Ph.D. degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering from George Mason University, VA, USA. Now he works as a postdoc in the department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Virginia Tech, Blacksburg, VA, USA. His research interests include wireless communications, network resource allocation and management, anomaly detection in wireless signals, and intelligent optimization algorithm design.


karim Karim Said
PostDoctoral Research Associate (Fall 2022 - )

Karim Said received the B.S. degree in Electrical Engineering from Mansoura University, Egypt and the M.S. and PhD degrees from Virginia Tech, Blacksburg, VA, respectively. Now he works as a postdoc in the department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Virginia Tech, Blacksburg, VA, USA. His current research interests include waveform design for ultra-reliable low latency communications, multi-mode fiber communications and statistical learning theory.


lianjun Lianjun Li
Ph.D. Student (Fall 2018 - )

Lianjun Li received the B.S. degree in Telecommunications Engineering from Zhejiang University, China. After that he joined Ericsson as a wireless network optimization engineer for 7 years. He received the M.S. degree in Electrical Engineering from University of Texas at Dallas (UTD). Now he is pursuing the Ph.D. degree in the Bradley Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Virginia Tech. His research interest is applying reinforcement learning and deep learning techniques to wireless communications. Lianjun has been a research intern in the Standards and Mobility Innovation Lab of Samsung Research America for three consecutive summers from 2019 to 2021.


shashank Shashank Jere
Ph.D. Student (Fall 2019 - )

Shashank Jere received the B.S. degree in Electrical and Electronic Engineering from Nanyang Technological University, Singapore and the M.S. degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) in 2014 and 2016 respectively. From 2016 to 2019, he worked as a Platform and Product Development engineer at Qualcomm Technologies Inc in San Diego, CA working on sub-6GHz and mm-Wave transceiver SoCs. He is currently pursuing the Ph.D. degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering at Virginia Tech. His research interests are in the broad area of wireless communications, neural networks, machine learning/deep learning and beyond-5G networks. Shashank was a research intern in Intel Labs for the summer of 2021 working on machine learning for wireless networks.


yibin Yibin (Donald) Liang
Ph.D. Student (Fall 2019 - )

Yibin Liang received the M.S. degree in Electrical Engineering from Virginia Tech, and he is currently pursuing the Ph.D. degree with the Wireless@Virginia Tech and the Multifunctional Integrated Circuits and Systems (MICS) research groups in the Bradley Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering. His current research interests include information theory, communication networks, machine learning, VLSI, and future intelligent computing systems. Yibin is a receipt of 2020 Qualcomm Innovation Fellow and spent his summer of 2021 in the Standards and Mobility Innovation Lab of Samsung Research America.


jiarui Jiarui Xu
Ph.D. Student (Fall 2020 - )

Jiarui Xu received the B.S. degree in Telecommunication Engineering from Beijing Institute of Technology, Beijing, China, in 2017, and the M.S. degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, MI, USA, in 2019. She is currently pursuing the Ph.D. degree in the Bradley Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE) at Virginia Tech, Blacksburg, VA, USA. Her research interests include deep learning, machine learning, and their applications in wireless communications. Jiarui was a research intern in the STAR Lab of Samsung Research America in Fall 2020.


nima Nima Mohammadi
Ph.D. Student (Fall 2020 - )

Nima Mohammadi holds a B.S. degree in Computer Engineering and received his M.S. degree in Computer Science from the University of Tehran. He is currently pursuing a Ph.D. in the Bradley Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE) at Virginia Tech. His current research interests include machine learning, wireless communications and neuromorphic computing.


yifei Yifei Song
Ph.D. Student (Spring 2021 - )


Yifei Song received his B.S. degree in Electrical Engineering and M.S. in Electrical and Computer Engineering from University of Connecticut and University of Washington respectively in 2017 and 2020. He joined the department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Virginia Tech as a Ph. D. student in 2021 Spring. His current research interests are in the broad area of wireless communications, machine learning and optimization.


jiongyu Jiongyu Dai
Ph.D. Student (Fall 2021 - )


Jiongyu Dai received his B.E. in Automation and M.S. in Control Science and Engineering from Xi'an Jiaotong University, China, respectively in 2017 and 2020. He joined the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Virginia Tech as a Ph. D. student in 2021 Fall. His current research interests include security, 5G and wireless networks.


mahfuz Mahfuzur Rahman
Ph.D. Student (Fall 2021 - )

Mahfuzur Rahman received his B.S. degree from Bangladesh University of Engineering & Technology (BUET), Dhaka, Bangladesh and dual M.S. degrees in Electrical & Computer Engineering and Physics both from Michigan Technological University (MTU), Houghton, MI in 2016. He has worked as RF Engineer for over 10 years globally. He joined the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Virginia Tech as a Ph. D. student in Fall 2021. His current research interests are in the broad area of wireless communications, Non-Terrestrial Network, and machine learning.


usama Usama Saeed
Ph.D. Student (Fall 2021 - )

Usama Saeed received his BE degree in Electrical Engineering from the National University of Science and Technology in 2019. He is currently pursuing the Ph.D. degree in Computer Engineering within Wireless@VT in the Bradley Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering. His research interests lie in the broad area of wireless communications, channel estimation and system prototyping with Software Defined Radios (SDRs).


ramin Ramin Safavinejad
Ph.D. Student (Spring 2022 - )

Ramin Safavinejad received his B.S. degree in Electrical Engineering from Iran University of Science and Technology and his M.S. degree in Communication Systems from Sharif University of Technology, Tehran, Iran. He has joined the Bradley Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering since Spring 2022 to pursue his PhD as a member of Wireless@VT. His current research include 5G and beyond communication networks and systems, wireless scheduling, reinforcement learning and statistical learning theory.


shadab Shadab Mahboob
Ph.D. Student (Spring 2022 - )

Shadab Mahboob received his B.Sc. degree in Electrical and Electronics Engineering from Bangladesh University of Engineering & Technology (BUET), Dhaka, Bangladesh in 2017 and M.S. degree in Electrical Engineering from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI), Troy, NY in 2021. He has joined Wireless@VT research group in the Bradley Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Virginia Tech as a Ph.D. student from Spring 2022. His research interests broadly include 5G networks, optimization and machine learning.


saisree Sai Sree Rayala
Ph.D. Student (Spring 2022 - )

Sai Sree received M.S. in Electrical Engineering from University of Southern California (USC) and is currently pursuing the Ph.D. degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering at Virginia Tech. She has around 5 years of working experience in the telecommunication field. Her current research interests include scheduling for beyond 5G networks using deep reinforcement learning and signal processing for OTFS.


larry Yi-Hung (Larry) Kao
Ph.D. Student (Fall 2022 - )

Yi-Hung Kao received the B.S. degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering and the M.S. in Communication Engineering at Chiao Tung University, Hsinchu, Taiwan. After graduating, he become a research assistant in Chiao Tung University and worked on mmWave beam allocation algorithm and stochastic geometric for 2 years. Now he is pursuing Ph.D. degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering at Virginia Tech. His current research interest is resource scheduling and allocation in wireless communication systems.


kim Sang Hyuk Kim
Ph.D. Student (Fall 2022 - )

Sang Hyuk Kim received his B.E. degree from Chung-Ang University, Seoul, South Korea, and M.S. degree in Electrical and Electronic Engineering from Yonsei University, Seoul, South Korea in 2015 and 2017 respectively. He has five years of work experience as a system software engineer at TmaxSoft, an enterprise software provider, and at SPC Group, a food chain company in Korea. He joined Wireless@VT in the Fall of 2022, and his current interests include communication theory, next-generation 5G networks, machine learning, and universal software design.


ibraheem Ibraheem Alturki
Ph.D. Student (Fall 2022 - )

Ibraheem Alturki received his B.S. degree in electrical engineering from King Saud University, Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, and earned his M.S. degree in electrical engineering from the Viterbi School of Engineering at the University of Southern California (USC), Los Angeles in 2016 and 2020 respectively. He worked for several years as a faculty member at King Saud University. He is currently pursuing a Ph.D. degree in the Bradley Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Virginia Tech.
