Karim Said
PostDoctoral Research Associate (Fall 2022 - )
Karim Said received the B.S. degree in Electrical Engineering from Mansoura University, Egypt and the M.S. and PhD degrees from Virginia Tech, Blacksburg, VA, respectively. Now he works as a postdoc in the department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Virginia Tech, Blacksburg, VA, USA. His current research interests include waveform design for ultra-reliable low latency communications, multi-mode fiber communications and statistical learning theory.
Shashank Jere
Ph.D. Student (Fall 2019 - )
Shashank Jere received the B.S. degree in Electrical and Electronic Engineering from Nanyang Technological University, Singapore and the M.S. degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) in 2014 and 2016 respectively. From 2016 to 2019, he worked as a Platform and Product Development engineer at Qualcomm Technologies Inc in San Diego, CA working on sub-6GHz and mm-Wave transceiver SoCs. He is currently pursuing the Ph.D. degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering at Virginia Tech. His research interests are in the broad area of wireless communications, neural networks, machine learning/deep learning and beyond-5G networks. Shashank was a research intern in Intel Labs for the summer of 2021 working on machine learning for wireless networks.
Yibin (Donald) Liang
Ph.D. Student (Fall 2019 - )
Yibin Liang received the M.S. degree in Electrical Engineering from Virginia Tech, and he is currently pursuing the Ph.D. degree with the Wireless@Virginia Tech and the Multifunctional Integrated Circuits and Systems (MICS) research groups in the Bradley Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering. His current research interests include information theory, communication networks, machine learning, VLSI, and future intelligent computing systems. Yibin is a receipt of 2020 Qualcomm Innovation Fellow and spent his summer of 2021 in the Standards and Mobility Innovation Lab of Samsung Research America.
Jiarui Xu
Ph.D. Student (Fall 2020 - )
Jiarui Xu received the B.S. degree in Telecommunication Engineering from Beijing Institute of Technology, Beijing, China, in 2017, and the M.S. degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, MI, USA, in 2019. She is currently pursuing the Ph.D. degree in the Bradley Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE) at Virginia Tech, Blacksburg, VA, USA. Her research interests include deep learning, machine learning, and their applications in wireless communications. Jiarui was a research intern in the STAR Lab of Samsung Research America in Fall 2020.
Nima Mohammadi
Ph.D. Student (Fall 2020 - )
Nima Mohammadi holds a B.S. degree in Computer Engineering and received his M.S. degree in Computer Science from the University of Tehran. He is currently pursuing a Ph.D. in the Bradley Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE) at Virginia Tech. His current research interests include machine learning, wireless communications and neuromorphic computing.
Yifei Song
Ph.D. Student (Spring 2021 - )
Yifei Song received his B.S. degree in Electrical Engineering and M.S. in Electrical and Computer Engineering from University of Connecticut and University of Washington respectively in 2017 and 2020. He joined the department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Virginia Tech as a Ph. D. student in 2021 Spring. His current research interests are in the broad area of wireless communications, machine learning and optimization.
Jiongyu Dai
Ph.D. Student (Fall 2021 - )
Jiongyu Dai received his B.E. in Automation and M.S. in Control Science and Engineering from Xi'an Jiaotong University, China, respectively in 2017 and 2020. He joined the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Virginia Tech as a Ph. D. student in 2021 Fall. His current research interests include security, 5G and wireless networks.
Mahfuzur Rahman
Ph.D. Student (Fall 2021 - )
Mahfuzur Rahman received his B.S. degree from Bangladesh University of Engineering & Technology (BUET), Dhaka, Bangladesh and dual M.S. degrees in Electrical & Computer Engineering and Physics both from Michigan Technological University (MTU), Houghton, MI in 2016. He has worked as RF Engineer for over 10 years globally. He joined the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Virginia Tech as a Ph. D. student in Fall 2021. His current research interests are in the broad area of wireless communications, Non-Terrestrial Network, and machine learning.
Usama Saeed
Ph.D. Student (Fall 2021 - )
Usama Saeed received his BE degree in Electrical Engineering from the National University of Science and Technology in 2019. He is currently pursuing the Ph.D. degree in Computer Engineering within Wireless@VT in the Bradley Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering. His research interests lie in the broad area of wireless communications, channel estimation and system prototyping with Software Defined Radios (SDRs).
Evan Allen
Ph.D. Student (Fall 2021 - )
Evan Allen received the B.S. degree in Electrical & Computer Engineering from Marshall University (MU) in 2021. He is currently pursuing his Ph.D. Degree in Wireless@Virginia Tech, the Bradley Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Virginia Tech. His research interests are in the broad area of wireless communications, machine learning and optimization.
Ramin Safavinejad
Ph.D. Student (Spring 2022 - )
Ramin Safavinejad received his B.S. degree in Electrical Engineering from Iran University of Science and Technology and his M.S. degree in Communication Systems from Sharif University of Technology, Tehran, Iran. He has joined the Bradley Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering since Spring 2022 to pursue his PhD as a member of Wireless@VT. His current research include 5G and beyond communication networks and systems, wireless scheduling, reinforcement learning and statistical learning theory.
Shadab Mahboob
Ph.D. Student (Spring 2022 - )
Shadab Mahboob received his B.Sc. degree in Electrical and Electronics Engineering from Bangladesh University of Engineering & Technology (BUET), Dhaka, Bangladesh in 2017 and M.S. degree in Electrical Engineering from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI), Troy, NY in 2021. He has joined Wireless@VT research group in the Bradley Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Virginia Tech as a Ph.D. student from Spring 2022. His research interests broadly include 5G networks, optimization and machine learning.
Ibraheem Alturki
Ph.D. Student (Fall 2022 - )
Ibraheem Alturki received his B.S. degree in electrical engineering from King Saud University, Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, and earned his M.S. degree in electrical engineering from the Viterbi School of Engineering at the University of Southern California (USC), Los Angeles in 2016 and 2020 respectively. He worked for several years as a faculty member at King Saud University. He is currently pursuing a Ph.D. degree in the Bradley Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Virginia Tech.
Raymond Zhao

Raymond Zhao completed his B.S. degree in Electrical Engineering from Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology in 2023. He is currently pursuing his Master's and Ph.D. degree in Wireless@Virginia Tech. His interests lie in the extensive realm of wireless communication and machine learning.
Ummay Sumaya Khan
Ph.D. Student (Spring 2024 - )
Ummay Sumaya Khan received her B.Sc. degree in Electrical and Electronics Engineering from Bangladesh University of Engineering & Technology (BUET), Dhaka, Bangladesh in 2017 and her M.S. degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering from the University of Florida (UF), Gainesville, FL in 2023. She is currently pursuing her Ph.D. degree in the Bradley Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE) at Virginia Tech, Blacksburg, VA, USA. Her research interests include deep learning, machine learning, neuromorphic computing and their applications in MIMO wireless communications, and FPGA implementation.
Sujata Sinha
Ph.D. Student (Summer 2024 - )
Sujata Sinha received her B.Tech. degree in Electronics and Communication Engineering from Uttar Pradesh Technical University, India and M.S. degree in Computer Science and Software Engineering from Auburn University, Auburn (AL) in 2018 and 2021 respectively. She is currently pursuing the Ph.D. degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering at Virginia Tech. Her research interests include wireless communications, machine learning/deep learning, and wireless security.
