PCSGU250 FAQ
Downloading Drivers and Software
- Go to http://www.vellemanusa.com/support/downloads/?code=PCSGU250
- Download the software pclab2000lt_v1_12_setup.zip under Software header
- Download the drivers pcsgu250_winusbdrv2.zip (Win7) or pcsdriver-win8.zip (Win8/10) under the Drivers header.
- Version numbers might be outdated. Always use the latest version of software and driver on the website.
- Unzip (Right Click -> Extract All) the driver file you just downloaded into an easy-to-find location
- Note: You must unzip the driver file to be able to install the drivers.
- IMPORTANT: Follow the instructions below to install the drivers for your OS. The scope will not work without installing the drivers.
- Unzip (Right Click -> Extract All) the pclab2000lt_v1_12_setup.zip and install the software.
- Open the PcLab2000LT program. You should be prompted to calibrate the scope. Select File -> Calibrate and Exit. You should now see a blue light on the scope whenever the PcLab2000LT program is open.
Installing Drivers
Windows 10
You must enable Windows 10 to allow unsigned drivers.
- Open the Start menu and select Settings
- Click Update & Recovery -> Recovery -> Advanced startup -> Restart now
- After the restart, select Troubleshoot -> Advanced options
- Select Startup Settings and Restart
- After the restart, choose option 7) Disable driver signature enforcement (press the 7 key)
- Once the computer is finished booting, follow the instructions for Windows 7 drivers
Windows 8.1
You must enable Windows 8.1 to allow unsigned drivers.
- Open the Start bar (hover mouse in right hand corner, or swipe right side of screen)
- Select Settings -> Change PC Settings -> Update & Recovery -> Recovery -> Advanced startup -> Restart now
- After the restart, select Troubleshoot -> Advanced options
- Select Startup Settings and Restart
- After the restart, choose option 7) Disable driver signature enforcement (press the 7 key)
- Once the computer is finished booting, follow the instructions for Windows 7 drivers
Windows 8

Vista/Windows 7
- Plug in the USB Oscilloscope
- Open Device Manager (Control Panel -> Device Manager)
- You might need to change the View from category to icons.
- At the top of the list, right click on your computer name and select Scan for hardware changes
- In the list under Other Devices you should see a PCSGU250 device with a tiny yellow exclamation mark on the icon.
- Right click this device and choose Update Driver Software...
- In the Update Driver wizard, select Browse my computer for driver software
- Click on Browse and navigate to the folder location where you unzipped the driver software and select the pcsgu250_winusbdrv2 folder
- Make sure that Include Subfolders is checked
- If you get a dialog window popup, select Install this driver software anyways
- You should now see a PCSGU250 Device in your Device Manager list
XP
- Plug in the USB Oscilloscope
- Open Device Manager (Control Panel -> Device Manager)
- In the list under 'Other Devices' you should see a PCSGU250 device with a yellow question mark next to it.
- Right click this device and choose 'Update Driver'
- In the Hardware Update Wizard, select "No, not this time"
- Choose "Install from a list or specific location"
- Check the "Include this location in the search" box and click on 'Browse'
- Click on 'Browse' and navigate to the folder location where you unzipped the driver software and select the pcsgu250_winusbdrv2 folder
- Make sure that 'Include Subfolders' is checked
- If you get a dialog window popup, select 'Install this driver software anyways'
- You should now see a PCSGU250 Device in your Device Manager list
Uninstalling Drivers
- Plug in the USB Oscilloscope
- Open Device Manager (Control Panel -> Device Manager)
- At the top of the list, right click on your computer name and select 'Scan for hardware changes'
- Right click on the PSCGU250 device and select 'Uninstall'
- Make sure that 'Delete the driver software for this device' is checked
- Repeat step 3 and check that you see the PCSGU250 under 'Other Devices' with a yellow exclamation mark next to it
- Follow directions for installing drivers
Troubleshooting
PLEASE READ
If you are have any trouble at all, please uninstall both the drivers (see above) and the PCLab software, go to the website and download the latest driver and PCLab version and follow the installation instructions. If you continue to have issues, see below.
Surface Pro 3
There is some indication that the single USB port on the Surface Pro 3 does not interact properly with the scope, causing the PcLab2000 software to hang after running a single function. Using a USB hub (powered or unpowered) seems to resolve this issue.
Program is running, cannot see window
This happens if you plug your laptop onto a second monitor, have the PcLab2000 program open on the external monitor, and then unplug the monitor. The PcLab program window can get stuck on the now non-existent monitor space.
To bring it back into view, do this:
- First make sure you’ve alt-tabbed to the window, or clicked on it once to bring it into focus.
- Then right-click on the taskbar and choose Move
- At this point, you should notice that your cursor changes to the “Move” cursor, but you still can’t move anything.
- Just hit any one of the arrow keys (Left, Right, Down, Up), move your mouse, and the window should magically “pop” back onto the screen.
You can also do this via keyboard shortcuts:
- Alt-tab to the PcLab program window
- Hit Alt+Space
- Hit M
- Hold down an Arrow key, and then move your mouse, the window should pop back in place.
Other pcsgu250 software may be active
If you get an error starting with "Other pcsgu250 software may be active..." and the PcLab2000LT program is hanging, do the following:
- Open Windows Task Manager (CTRL-SHIFT-ESC) and kill the hung PcLab2000LT process
- Open Windows Explorer (Computer)
- In the toolbar select Organize -> Folder and search options
- In the View tab, select "Show hidden files, folders and drives", click OK
- Locate the folder: C:\Users\<your username>\AppData\Local\Velleman\
- Delete the entire Velleman folder
The PcLab2000LT program should now be functioning.
Matlab Plugin Issues
- ECE students that will be using the Velleman scope integration will require 32-bit MATLAB installations (due to the library provided by the vendor is 32-bit only). The documentation in the support package does call out this requirement.
- 64-bit OS users can have both a Win 32-bit install and a win 64-bit install at the same time (as well as for different versions e.g. R2011a and R2011b). There may not be a reason too, but it is possible. Each of these installations go into a different installation folder, and the applications can be run at the same time if desired.
- Matlab will give an error if the path to the plugin contains the @ symbol. Try and keep your folder names simple and don't use special characters.
Bode Plot Hangs
- Drivers from Velleman have been updated, this might not be an issue anymore.
When running on a 64-bit machine, you must install the PCSGU250Driver_WinUSB driver, not the PCSGU250Driver. If you have accidentally installed the PCSGU250Driver, follow the directions for uninstalling and installing drivers
