OpenVPN
- If you are in the Durham 470 Student Lab using a WIRED connection, you do not need to use OpenVPN.
Windows
- Download and install the OpenVPN Windows Installer (64-bit) here: http://openvpn.net/index.php/open-source/downloads.html
- During the OpenVPN install, accept the default options, and install the TAP-Windows device software when prompted.
- Create and download your OpenVPN certificate here: https://wireless.vt.edu/vpn
- Move your ovpn file (<pid>.ovpn) to the C:\Program Files\OpenVPN\config folder
- Right click on the OpenVPN GUI icon on your desktop and select Properties
- Open the Compatibility tab
- Under Privilege Level, check the box for "Run this program as an Administrator" and click OK
- Open OpenVPN GUI
- You should now see a new network icon in the system tray on the lower right. Right click and select Connect
- See the instructions for installing the printer below
OS X
- Download and install Tunnelblick
- Create and download your OpenVPN certificate here: https://wireless.vt.edu/vpn
- Double click your ovpn file (<pid>.ovpn) to install
- Select the Tunnelblick icon in the top right of the menubar and connect.
Adding Printers
First, remove the old printer(s)
- Start -> Devices & Printers -> Right click on the printer to remove and select Remove
Windows 7
- Note: You must be connected to the OpenVPN network, or using the network in the Durham 470 student lab
- Open Start -> Devices & Printers
- Click on Add a Printer
- Select the Add a Network Printer option
- Click The printer that I want isn't listed
- Select Add a printer using a TCP/IP address... and click Next
- Enter the following address in the Hostname box 192.168.1.25 and click Next
- Accept the default option for the rest of the process. You will be prompted for the driver that you downloaded from the link below.
OS X
- Open Printers & Scanners preference pane (System Preferences)
- Click + icon on bottom left
- Select the IP tab
- Enter 192.168.1.25 into the Address box
- After a few seconds for OSX to scan the printer, click Add.
Driver Location
If you are prompted for a driver
- Download the driver for the HP LaserJet M601dn
- Select your operating system and download the Driver Only option. Execute the downloaded file, unpacking the drivers to the C drive.
- Install the driver from the driver folder (C:\HP_LaserJet_Enterprise_600_M601_M602_M603_printer_series)
