Wireless@VT Printers
First, remove the old printer(s)
- Start -> Devices & Printers -> Right click on the printer to remove and select Remove
Adding Printers
- Note: If you are in the Wireless Student lab, use \\192.168.1.30\ instead of print.wireless.vt.edu
Method 1 (Windows 7/8)
- Open File Explorer (Start -> Computer)
- In the address bar, type \\print.wireless.vt.edu\ and hit enter.
- Log in with your your MPRG account: MPRG\USERNAME (if your password is expired, you must change it first)
- Right click on the printer HP-LJ-M601 and select "Connect..."
Method 2 (Windows 7 & Windows XP)
- Start -> Devices & Printers
- Click on Add a Printer
- Select the network printer option
- Select "The printer I want isn't listed"
- Select a shared printer by name and enter \\print.wireless.vt.edu\HP-LJ-M601
- Enter your MPRG account: MPRG\USERNAME if prompted (if your password is expired, you must change it first)
Method 3 (Windows 7)
- Use this method if you get a "Connect to Printer" error.
- Note: This method only works from the internal network in the Wireless student lab
- Start -> Devices & Printers
- Click on Add a Printer
- Select the Local Printer option
- Create a new port: Standard TCP/IP
- Enter the following address: 192.168.1.25
- Accept the default option for the rest of the process. You will be prompted for the driver that you downloaded from the link below.
OpenVPN
Windows
- Download and install the OpenVPN Windows Installer (64-bit) here: http://openvpn.net/index.php/open-source/downloads.html
- Accept the default options during the install, and install the TAP-Windows device software.
- Create and download your OpenVPN certificate here: https://wireless.vt.edu/vpn
- Move your ovpn file to the C:\Program Files\OpenVPN\config folder
- Right click on the OpenVPN GUI icon on your desktop and select Properties
- Open the Compatibility tab
- Under Privilege Level, check the box for "Run this program as an Administrator" and click OK
- Open OpenVPN GUI
- You should now see a new network icon in the system tray on the lower right. Right click and click Connect
OS X
Driver Location
If you are prompted for a driver
- Download the driver for the HP LaserJet M601dn
- Select your operating system and download the Driver Only option. Execute the downloaded file, unpacking the drivers to the C drive.
- Install the driver from the driver folder (C:\HP_LaserJet_Enterprise_600_M601_M602_M603_printer_series)
