To use the ECE License Server off campus you can connect to VT's VPN (link here).
The following software packages will not work with VT's VPN:
OpNet/RiverBed Modeler
For these packages, please contact support@ece.vt.edu they will send you a key file (client.ovpn) for the license server VPN.
To use this:
- Please contact support@ece.vt.edu saying what package you are trying to use and they will send you a key file (client.ovpn
- Go here: https://openvpn.net/index.php/open-source/downloads.html
- Pick the appropriate down load for you machine.
- Install OpenVPN by double clicking it.
- Note during the installation, it will ask you about installing a "TAP device", Do install this.
- Don't try to run the program just yet.
- Click:
- "Start",
- "All Programs",
- "OpenVPN",
- "Short Cuts",
- "OpenVPN configuration file directory"
- "Short Cuts",
- "OpenVPN",
- "All Programs",
- "Start",
- Copy the key file "client.ovpn" to this folder.
- Right click the desktop icon "OpenVPN". Select:
- "Run as administrator"
- Nothing much will appear to happen.
- Look in your "System Tray". You should find an icon that is for OpenVPN.
- Double click this icon, it should start OpenVPN and you should get a "client is now connected" pop-up.
You should now be able to connect to the license server.
Now install OpNet/riverbed modeler.
- When it asks "Select the type of licensing you want."
- Pick "Floating - access license from remote server"
- Remote License Server Settings
- Hostname (or IP Address)
- willow.ece.vt.edu

- port_a
