Boot into single user mode and type passwd <user>

  1. Restart Mac
  2. Hold Command-R after the chime
    • On a windows keyboard, hold Windows-R
  3. Menu Bar -> Utilities -> Terminal
  4. type the following and use the wizard to reset the user's password
resetpassword
  • This may cause issues with your OS X keychain, and you could lose all saved password. Here is an article on reseting your keychain

  1. Shut down your Mac if it is on.
  2. Press the power button to start the computer.
  3. Immediately press and hold the Command key and one of the following:
    • the "s" key for single-user mode. (Command-S)
    • the "v" key for verbose mode. (Command-V)
