Boot into single user mode and type passwd <user>

- Restart Mac
- Hold Command-R after the chime
- On a windows keyboard, hold Windows-R
- Menu Bar -> Utilities -> Terminal
- type the following and use the wizard to reset the user's password

- This may cause issues with your OS X keychain, and you could lose all saved password. Here is an article on reseting your keychain

- Shut down your Mac if it is on.
- Press the power button to start the computer.
- Immediately press and hold the Command key and one of the following:
- the "s" key for single-user mode. (Command-S)
- the "v" key for verbose mode. (Command-V)
