Wireless@VT Printers

To print to the Lobby Printer, you must be connected to the OpenVPN network.


OpenVPN

Windows

  1. Download and install the OpenVPN Windows Installer (64-bit) here: http://openvpn.net/index.php/open-source/downloads.html
  2. During the OpenVPN install, accept the default options, and install the TAP-Windows device software when prompted.
  3. Create and download your OpenVPN certificate here: https://wireless.vt.edu/vpn
  4. Move your ovpn file (<pid>.ovpn) to the C:\Program Files\OpenVPN\config folder
  5. Right click on the OpenVPN GUI icon on your desktop and select Properties
  6. Open the Compatibility tab
  7. Under Privilege Level, check the box for "Run this program as an Administrator" and click OK
  8. Open OpenVPN GUI
  9. You should now see a new network icon in the system tray on the lower right. Right click and select Connect
  10. See the instructions for installing the printer below

OS X

Adding Printers

First, remove the old printer(s)

  • Start -> Devices & Printers -> Right click on the printer to remove and select Remove
Windows 7
  • Note: You must be connected to the OpenVPN network, or using the network in the Durham 470 student lab
  1. Open Start -> Devices & Printers
  2. Click on Add a Printer
  3. Select the Local Printer option
  4. Create a new port: Standard TCP/IP
  5. Enter the following address: 192.168.1.25
  6. Accept the default option for the rest of the process. You will be prompted for the driver that you downloaded from the link below.

Driver Location

If you are prompted for a driver

  • Download the driver for the HP LaserJet M601dn
  • Select your operating system and download the Driver Only option. Execute the downloaded file, unpacking the drivers to the C drive.
  • Install the driver from the driver folder (C:\HP_LaserJet_Enterprise_600_M601_M602_M603_printer_series)
